Transition to Summer: 30 degree temperatures incoming for some.
Spring has stuck to its reputation this year, with swings in temperatures and late cold snaps including a Significant snow event in late October, that saw snow fall to low levels across the lower South Island and southern Canterbury High Country - we are now moving into the end stages of November (and spring)!
A large area of high pressure situated to the west of New Zealand is facilitating above average temperatures for parts of New Zealand, but especially in the East of both islands.
As of the time of publishing this article, Nelson is the warmest place in New Zealand and currently sitting on 27 degrees - with some personal weather stations (PWS) reading slightly higher temperature values.
This image shows maximum temperatures on Thursday over the Central North Island on Thursday, with foehn West to North West winds expected to push temperatures above normal, knocking on 30 degrees - most of Gisborne and Hawkes Bay can expect to see temperatures in the range of 27-31.
Thursday Maximum temperatures in the South Island’s East Coast are expected to be slightly cooler than the North Island, with Canterbury maximum temperatures of 23-27 expected.

A cooler change will arrive on Thursday for the lower South Island, this will help moderate temperatures a little on Friday nationwide - but expect a rebound next week as summer officially kicks off.
